Alleghenies Ahead is a 16-month project that will result in an implementable plan for a stronger Southern Alleghenies region. Guided by the principle to "plan regionally, implement locally," the project will include customized action plans for Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon, and Somerset counties. 

Launched in December 2016 and concluding by March 2018, the project is comprised of the following phases of work:


Winter 2016-2017

  • Data collection and analysis to identify critical trends and issues
  • Steering committee meetings, stakeholder interviews, and small group discussions to define core values
  • Preliminary identification of regional and county-level priorities 

Spring/Summer 2017

  • Public open house and surveys
  • Ratification of core values, planning principles, and priorities
  • Translation of regional and county-level priorities into projects and initiatives

Fall/Winter 2017-2018

  • Completion of first draft 
  • Public review and draft refinement
  • County review and adoption
